TL;DR: The GCC Salary Calculator converts gross to net, breaks down housing / transport / food allowances, shows gratuity estimates, and converts your take-home pay to INR, PKR, BDT, and 150+ currencies in real time. No sign-up needed.

Working in the Gulf is one of the few opportunities where a professional can dramatically increase savings — because all six GCC countries levy zero personal income tax. But understanding your actual take-home requires knowing the difference between basic salary and total package, which deductions (if any) apply, what gratuity you are accruing, and what that AED or SAR figure is worth back home.

This guide explains every component of a GCC salary, how deductions work by country, and walks through real examples for UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman.

GCC salary package components

Most GCC employment contracts split compensation into components rather than a single number. A "AED 15,000/month" offer might actually be:

ComponentTypical splitUAE example (AED)
Basic Salary40–60% of total7,000
Housing Allowance20–25% of basic3,000
Transport AllowanceFixed amount1,000
Food / Mobile AllowanceFixed amount500
Total Package11,500

Why does the split matter? Because gratuity (end-of-service benefit) is calculated on basic salary only. A higher basic means higher gratuity. Social insurance contributions in countries that have them (Saudi GOSI, Bahrain SIO) are also applied to the basic salary.

Enable GCC Package Mode in the calculator to enter each component separately and see the full breakdown.

Gratuity (end-of-service benefit)

All GCC countries mandate a gratuity payment when an employee leaves after completing at least one year of service. The UAE formula (used as the GCC standard in this calculator) is:

First 5 years: 21 days of basic salary per year
After 5 years: 30 days of basic salary per year

Formula: (basic ÷ 30) × 21 × years_served

On a UAE basic salary of AED 7,000/month, gratuity accrues at:

Service yearsGratuity earned
1 yearAED 4,900 (= 7,000 ÷ 30 × 21)
3 yearsAED 14,700
5 yearsAED 24,500
10 yearsAED 56,000 (21 days × 5 + 30 days × 5)

The calculator shows gratuity estimates for 1, 3, 5, and 10 years whenever you select a GCC country.

Converting your GCC salary to INR, PKR, or BDT

The calculator fetches live exchange rates and converts your net salary to any supported currency. This is particularly useful for workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Philippines who are planning remittances or comparing offers.

Example: AED 10,000/month at a rate of ≈ 22.6 INR/AED ≈ INR 226,000/month (≈ INR 27.1 lakh/year). Enter your salary and hit the "Convert to" selector to see live figures.

Cost of living and savings estimate

Each country card in the calculator shows a rough cost-of-living estimate so you can project savings:

Riyadh, SaudiSAR 5,500≈ SAR 4,500 saved

Frequently asked questions

What is a good salary in UAE? Entry-level: AED 5,000–8,000. Mid-level professionals (engineers, nurses, accountants): AED 10,000–20,000. Senior / management: AED 20,000–40,000+. Since UAE has no income tax, your gross equals your net.

Does Bahrain tax expats? No income tax, but expat workers contribute 1% of basic salary to the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO). On a BHD 500 basic, that is BHD 5/month — negligible.

Is gratuity paid on total package or basic? Basic salary only, in all GCC countries. This is why recruiters often advertise total package — make sure you know what portion is basic before accepting.

How do I calculate hourly rate from a monthly GCC salary? Select "Monthly" → "Hourly" in the frequency selector. The calculator divides by the standard 22 working days × 8 hours = 176 hours/month.

Do I owe tax in my home country on GCC earnings? Depends on your residency and tax treaty. Indian citizens generally owe no Indian tax on GCC salary; UK citizens may owe UK tax on worldwide income depending on residency status. Always consult a local tax professional.
