How to use the AI translator

Translation runs using Chrome's built-in on-device AI, so your text is processed locally and never uploaded to a server. If your browser does not support built-in AI yet, you can configure an optional Cloudflare Worker endpoint in the AI Settings panel as a fallback.
Once the translation is ready, use the Copy button to copy it to your clipboard, or Swap to move the translated text back into the input for further editing or re-translation into another language.

Why on-device translation is private
Most online translators send your text to a remote server to be processed, which means a copy of whatever you type or paste passes through a third party's infrastructure. This AI Translator instead uses Chrome's built-in on-device AI model (Gemini Nano) whenever it is available, so the translation happens directly on your computer.
This matters for sensitive material — personal messages, contracts, medical notes, or anything you would not want stored on someone else's server. Nothing is logged, and no account or signup is required. If on-device AI is not available in your browser, the tool can optionally fall back to a Cloudflare Worker AI endpoint that you configure and control yourself.

Does my text get uploaded to a server?
No, by default. When Chrome's built-in AI is available, translation runs entirely on your device and your text never leaves your browser. If you configure an optional Cloudflare Worker fallback, text is sent only to that endpoint you control.

The AI model automatically identifies the language of your input text and reports it alongside the translation, so you do not need to select a source language manually.
