How to use the AI text summarizer

Paste or type the text you want to summarize into the box above — articles, reports, emails, transcripts, or research notes all work. Choose a mode (TL;DR, Key Points, or Headline) and a length (Short, Medium, or Long), then click Summarize.

The tool uses Chrome's built-in on-device AI to generate the summary, so your text is processed locally and never uploaded to a server. If your browser does not support built-in AI yet, you can configure an optional Cloudflare Worker endpoint in the AI Settings panel as a fallback.

Once the summary is ready, use the Copy button to copy it to your clipboard for pasting into an email, document, or notes app.

When to use a summarizer, and which summary type to pick

A text summarizer saves time whenever you need the gist of something without reading every word — long articles before sharing them, research papers before deciding whether to read in full, meeting notes before a follow-up, or long email threads before replying.

  • TL;DR: best for getting the overall gist of an article, email, or report in a paragraph
  • Key Points: best for study notes, meeting minutes, or content you need to scan quickly
  • Headline: best for turning a long piece of writing into a single sentence for a title, subject line, or social post

Choose Short when you need a one or two sentence overview, Mediumfor a balanced summary that covers the main points, or Long when you want more detail and context preserved from the original text.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI text summarizer free to use?

Yes. The AI Text Summarizer is completely free with no signup, no account, and no usage limits.

Does my text get uploaded to a server?

No, by default. When Chrome's built-in AI is available, summarization runs entirely on your device and your text never leaves your browser. If you configure an optional Cloudflare Worker fallback, text is sent only to that endpoint you control.

What is the difference between TL;DR, Key Points, and Headline modes?

TL;DR gives a short paragraph summary of the whole text. Key Points extracts the main ideas as a bulleted list. Headline condenses the text into a single attention-grabbing sentence, similar to a news headline.

How long can the text I paste be?

You can paste articles, essays, reports, or transcripts of any reasonable length. Very long text may take a few extra seconds for the AI model to process.

Why does the tool ask me to enable Chrome built-in AI?

This tool uses Chrome's built-in on-device AI (Gemini Nano) so summarization happens privately without sending your text anywhere. If your browser does not support it yet, you can alternatively configure a Cloudflare Worker AI endpoint as a fallback.

Can I choose how long the summary is?

Yes. Choose Short for a one or two sentence summary, Medium for a balanced paragraph, or Long for a more detailed summary that preserves more context.

What browsers support this AI summarizer?

Chrome 128+ with built-in AI enabled works out of the box. Other browsers can use the tool by configuring a Cloudflare Worker AI endpoint in the AI Settings panel.
