How It Works
Why Merge PDFs?
There are countless situations where combining multiple PDFs into one file is the right move. Whether you are a student, professional, or just organizing files at home, a PDF merger saves you time and keeps things tidy.
- Email attachment limits — most services cap attachments at 10–25 MB; merging several small PDFs into one keeps you under the limit while sending everything together
- Cleaner presentations — combine a cover page, report body, and appendix into a single polished document
- Archiving & organization — merge monthly invoices, receipts, or scanned documents into yearly archives for easier storage
- Collaboration — share one file instead of asking colleagues to open five separate attachments
- Print jobs — send a single PDF to the printer instead of printing multiple files one at a time
Tips for Merging PDFs
Organize before uploading. Rename your files with a number prefix (e.g. 01-intro.pdf, 02-chapter.pdf) so they are easy to sort. You can still drag to reorder inside the tool, but pre-sorting saves time when merging many files.
Check page counts. The tool shows the page count for each file after it loads. Verify these numbers before merging to catch accidental duplicates or missing files.
Compress after merging if needed. Merging does not reduce file size — it just combines pages. If your merged PDF is larger than you need, run it through the PDF Compressor to shrink it without visible quality loss.
Unlock password-protected PDFs first. This tool cannot read encrypted page content. If any of your PDFs are password-protected, remove the password with a dedicated tool before merging here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to merge PDFs online with this tool?
Yes, completely. All merging happens entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF files are never uploaded to any server. They stay on your device the entire time — no one else can access them.
How many PDF files can I merge at once?
There is no hard limit on the number of files. You can merge as many PDFs as you like. Performance depends on your device memory and the total number of pages, but most use cases (up to 20–50 files) work smoothly in modern browsers.
Is there a file size limit?
No enforced file size limit is set by this tool. However, very large PDFs (hundreds of MB each) may be slow to process since everything runs in your browser. Performance will vary based on your device's available memory and CPU speed.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs cannot be fully merged. The tool attempts to open them with ignoreEncryption enabled, but content from encrypted pages may not be accessible. Remove the password from your PDFs first using a dedicated tool, then merge them here.
Will merging reduce PDF quality?
No. This tool merges PDFs at the page level using pdf-lib's copyPages API. Pages are copied as-is without re-rendering or re-encoding. Text remains selectable, vector graphics stay sharp, and image quality is fully preserved.
Can I change the order of pages before merging?
Yes. You can drag and drop file cards to reorder them, or use the up/down arrow buttons on each card. The files will be merged in the exact order shown in the list. All pages from each file are included in sequence.
Does merging work on mobile devices?
Yes, the merger works on modern mobile browsers including Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. You can select files from your device storage. Drag-to-reorder works on desktop; on mobile, use the arrow buttons to reorder files.
What happens to my files after merging?
Nothing is stored anywhere. Your files exist only in your browser's memory during the session. Once you close the tab or click "Merge another set", everything is cleared. The merged PDF is downloaded directly to your device.
